ABOUT HOUSTON

Houston is a world-class city that has something for everyone. The largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in the United States, this is a diverse, exciting community offering a large number of business and social opportunities. Our economy is thriving, our downtown is flourishing and our parks and neighborhoods are inviting.

Houstonians enjoy the multicultural atmosphere of the City year-round - they are proud of the area's diversity, and it shows through the citywide events and activities. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Art Car Parade, the International Festival, Fiesta Patrias, the Westheimer Street Festival, the Children's Festival, and a variety of holiday celebrations bring together the City in ways that have to be experienced first-hand. So come out to one of our festivals and enjoy yourself. We're certain you'll find something you'll like.

What Houston is all about. Enjoy Houston's outstanding performing and visual arts venues. Try one of the countless restaurants, offering cuisine in everything from Tex Mex and South American to Middle Eastern and Vietnamese. For sports fans we have local teams representing all major sports. Do some shopping; Houston offers something to fit every budget - from the exclusive shops in Houston's Uptown area to the outlet malls just outside the City.

And this is just the beginning.

The METRO light rail line began operation on January 1, 2004.  The 7.5 mile Main Street line runs from south of Reliant Park to the University of Houston-Downtown, with 16 total stops along the way.  Along the Main and Fannin Streets route, you can stop at Reliant Park, the Texas Medical Center and Rice University, Hermann Park and the Museum District, Midtown, and Downtown.  Trains are scheduled to arrive at the stations every 12 minutes.

This is the first phase of a projected 73 miles of light rail service in Houston by the year 2025.
